The Dirler-Cade vineyard is located in Alsace, in the small village of Bergholtz (1000 inhabitants), near Guebwiller. Guebwiller is the gateway to the enchanting valley of Florival, leading to the summits of the High Vosges mountains. The domaine is located exactly halfway between the cities of Colmar and Mulhouse.
In 1871 John founded Dirler Wines by setting up as "gourmet" in the village of Bergholtz. Since then, the winery has passed from generation to generation. Jean, Georges, Georges, Jean-Pierre and now Jean are the 5 generations of winemakers. In 1998 Jean married Ludivine, daughter of Léon and Nicole Hell Cadé, winemakers in Guebwiller. Since 2000, the domaine has included the parcels of Ludivine’s parents and adopted the name of Dirler-Cadé.
The family business now exploits 18 hectares of vineyards, of which 42% are classified Grand Cru Saering, Spiegel, Kessler or Kitterlé. The family produce fully biodynamic wines, which express the grape varieties cultivated and their terroir.
The Dirler vineyard was one of the two main pioneers in the production of sparkling wine (Crémant) in the 19th century. This was interrupted for some 60 years, but the domaine has now returned to the tradition by developing a white Crémant d'Alsace Brut from the 2005 vintage. century.
